Good to hear that from you. I was actually planning to purchase carburetor rebuild kit from AMC. My neighbor just recommend it to me because of the low price compared to online stores. ![]() ![]() Edited by billd - Dec/01/2010 at 6:29am |

Now I have to post an apology. Crow eating time. The rebuild kit I ordered from the AMC parts vendor came in before the other one, and was priced substantially less. Packing was good. Parts arrived, and I am in business. If you need to know the vendor, just PM me. Suffice it to say that I could have simply given it a few more days before going to an outside vendor.
Greenman - I'll PM you directly. Other folks, I'll shut up now.

Galvin's is in California.
Kennedy American has parts for the 1909 (I use that one). The Carburetor Doctor also has a rebuild kit AND a float for the 1909. I gave up on my AMC parts house order, and ordered from The Carburetor Doctor. Funny - I got confirmation from The Carb Doctor within minutes and the parts are on their way after thinking my order got lost at the other shop. Just half an hour ago I got confirmation back from an order placed 4 days ago, that I figured was probably placed wrong. Now I'll have two rebuild kits for the 1909! And one spare float. Guess I should have waited another day, lol. So - The Carb Doctor probably has parts for your car. Ordering is fast and easy, confirmation is quick. It's a pretty painless process. Another shop did not return a call, but they are still my primary go-to folks. I'm guessing they were busy, or at shows or on vacation. Kennedy American probably has the parts as well - I'd just call to make sure your order is placed. (I should have done that, rather than online and e-mail. Picking up the phone would have saved me some time and money). Too bad you don't have a 1909. I think I'll have a spare rebuild kit, lol.

Kennedy American lists a rebuild kit. I haven't checked American Parts Depot. I did not see one at Galvin's, and called Friday. No response. The Carburetor Factory lists a rebuild kit as well. They rebuild carbs. My 1908 was leaking. A few screws on the top weren't tight, tightening them just a little helped, although the Carburetor Factory recommended weighing the float. (not sure how much it should weight, though).
I checked Napa, Rockauto, Autozone and ORielly's with no luck. I'm either going with American Parts Depot or Kennedy American, or possibly the Carburetor Factory as their prices were lower and their tech already helped me out. Anyway - parts are out there. |

Did you check the needle and make sure it's in there and facing the right way?

carb kits are becoming more difficult to find for the 1908 style carbs, wasnt able to locate one locally, advance, orilleys and autozone will not have them listed in their computers, youll have to go to a employee that is a parts ro or someone willing to look in the book. I made my gaskets and i was lucky that the rest of the peices were in good shape.
I do have a 1908 / 2138 here that im selling it works but is missing the fast idle cam owever if you rig the idle it runs great

You might the auto parts stores. Give the year, make, size of engine and the list number off of the carb if you can read it. Generally Holley carbs have a four digit number with "list" above it or in front of it. If no luck there try the AMC vendors like American Parts Depot (google it). If no luck there watch Ebay and try the antique carb dealers. The Carburetor Shop I think is one old carb dealer that I have gotten kits from in the past. Joe |
