In '62 is that a single or a dual m/c? Power brakes or regular?

Have you tried the AMC vendors listed here? American Parts Depot, Kennedy American, Galvin's (aka Rambler Parts)? Rock Auto lists a master cylinder repair kit from Raysbestos for under $30.

It's the first year for the dual master cylinder on AMCs and it's an early Lockheed unit.  I think they only used it one year.  Keep checking Ebay and like some suggested call one of the knowledgeable vendors like Doug Galvin in California.  If yours is rebuildable, see if you can find a rebuild kit for it.  If you find one, and you need extra fill port covers, I have a couple I will give you. I went through the same thing with my Classic wagon and I found an NOS master cylinder on Ebay.   Joe

I'm sorry, I see that it's an American now in the title.

That would be a step backward.  It's a single bore master cyclinder (looks like one at least).  Joe

Hi Carl: I just installed 1979 AMC Spirit front disc brakes on my 62 convertible. It was by far the easiest thing I have done to car and a true bolt on. The master cylinder ( none power) I used is off 1970 Dodge Super Bee with disc/drum set up. It is a 4 bolt mount, I just had to open up holes a tiny bit. The master cylinder has 2 setting on push rod. You will have to move brake lines to other side of master cylinder. I spent more time testing master cylinders than it took install disc brake set up. Mopar used the 4 bolt master cylinder to about 1974 and have drum or front disc set up. I paid $ 75.00 for disc brake set up with spindles  and $ 47.00 for new master cylinder. Car stops great! I have old master cylinder if you want it.  Gary
