I am beginning my restoration of my 1981 Rambler Lerma Made by VAM. Got the paint stripped off and some parts were better than expected while others were worse. The engine , trans and dashboard are coming out next. I will be replacing the 998 transmission with a 4 speed that is being rebuilt. The 998 which was working fine s also going to be rebuilt with a shift kit and  will go into my 1977 Gremlin. The 282 Engine needs a rebuild and will be getting one.

Looks awesome so far! Such a neat car! What four speed are you going with? T10, T4 or SR4?

Good luck with your project man, ¿the four speed will be an automatic or a manual transmission?

A two-door VAM Lerma is a very neat car, a Spirit with a Concord-level back seat. The only problem of this car is the inability of folding the rear seat and the closed trunk which renders the trunk useless. Fortunately, this was corrected in the 1982 model.

How's this project going?

One of these was parked near where I was staying when I visited Mexico City, and I'd walk by every morning to ogle it!
