What modifications are needed to install an 8.8 ford rear from a v-6 Ranger? Is it just the leaf spring mounts?

Depends on the year of the Ranger. 92 and earlier are the correct width, 93+ are 2" wider. Hard to find an 8.8 pre 93 -- only used with the 4.0L V-6 and in commercial chassis. The 93+ is easy to narrow since the differential is offset. You need to get an extra short side axle then cut an weld the long side tube to fit the shorter axle. That narrows it just under 2"... like 1-7/8" or something close... just enough! |
