I've started the process of pulling the M11 trans in my new '68 Ambo to replace the flexplate, and my buddy suggested I "replace the ujoints, seals, filter, and gaskets" while it's apart. I found brute force non-greasable ujoints (PART #: UJS UJ269) that fit according to Napa, but they don't list the BW M11 as a trans option (only Chrysler ones). Can someone suggest what "seals, filter, and gaskets" I should replace with the trans out? I have not yet driven the car, so I would rather do it now than wait for a leak or wobble while driving down to Auburn in a month.
Thanks! Brian

Found these at American Parts Depot:
Overhaul Gasket and Seal Kit - M11, 11B, 12 (1 required) 160 0501B $89 Master Overhaul Kit - M11, 11B, 12 (1 req) 160 0502B $129 Any suggestions on which? I didn't plan on rebuilding the trans (WAY above my pay grade at the moment), so I'm not sure if these have a bunch of unnecessary items. Thanks! Brian

I would think that the front and back seals should be done while you have it out. There not hard except that the front seal requires the tranny out so might as well do them now.

Just for my curiosity, why are you replacing the flex plate?

The ring gear welds are busted and it's actually too far away from the starter to engage.
Do those American Parts Depot kits have those seals? I'm very new at this. Also, do I need a special tools: seal puller, seal installer, etc? Thanks! Brian Edited by skynless - May/31/2018 at 8:56am |

I doubt that you will find a new flexplate but you can probably find a new ring gear to weld back on it.

Actually I got one from a GLCAC club member a week ago, super cheap. He even sandblasted it for me!
Thanks! Brian
