Hey guys, Im hoping someone can help me out. I have a set of original AMC Center Caps that i want to use in some Magnum 500's. The problem is they dont have any retainers. Does anyone know where i could buy some or of I could use retainers from another brand or manufacturer? The magnums are wheel vintiques. Thanks in advance!

Post an ad in the WANTED section of this forum or any dealer that sells Wheel Vintiques should also sell the retainers.

Had this old info saved for AMX Center Caps: 1-7/8 tall, 2-3/4 base dia & 2-1/4 top dia Dish is 1/4 deep x 1-7/8 top & 1-3/4 btm dia GoodMark Part # 4012-588-691S, (4) Complete Centers for $75 for 1968-74 Chevy II Nova SS appear to be the same of very similar. Maybe contact GoodMark to see if they'll sell only retainers? or Wheel Vintiques 54 Series Magnum 500's Centers = #03580466 & #95499 - MoPar Centers ( a little taller than stock AMC's )

I have a set of Mopar Magnums with an almost identical center cap (minus the AMC Logo). You might check with some Mopar parts sites to see if anyone has the retainers.

I was wondering if the GoodMark retainers would work as well. I know there available through many places like Summit. They also carry the Wheel vintiques retainers which are a bit more pricey at 25 bucks compared to the GoodMark at about 10 bucks. Maybe I can contact them about the size of the caps to see if they will fit. Thanks for all the information PHAT69AMX!!! The Mopar option also sounds like a good way to go as I know they were similar and are a little more available. Thanks Everyone!! If anyone has used the GoodMark retainers or something similar that would be great to know for the future as well.

Let us know what works.
Understanding they all used Magnum Rims made by the same company Motor Wheel Corporation. Be careful with those tapped holes in the backs of those DieCast Potmetal center caps. I lubricated mine with a smidge of anti-seize and had stock AMC 14" Magnums and centers and new ? 1999 WV Magnum 500's with the big buck ~$40 each Mopar Center Caps and the Retainers interchanged iirc, but did not have GoodMark pieces in my hands.

Thanks for the advice on the pot metal threads! I noticed that yesterday when I was looking at them and was wondering what would help keep from ruining them. Just out of curiosity has anyone tried repairing the threads in the event they are stripped out? Maybe with a Heli Coil thread insert? I did go to GoodMarks web site and they do have a wheel center with retainer that works with the SS style cap as well as mopar and AMC, so it sounds like those are a possibility as well. May have to order one and try.

AMC, Chrysler, GM, and Ford all used similar Magnum 500s. The GM ones
had different bolt patterns, but used the same style centre cap. I used the Goodmark centre caps on my 69 Javelin. A propane torch was all I needed to soften the glue and remove the "SS" emblems. I honestly can't remember if I used Goodmark retainers or the OE AMC retainers. (actually, my 500s were Mopar since they have bright spokes, so the retainers may have been Mopar) The mounting screws were no big deal. I either used OE hardware or hardware store screws. This is not rocket science |
