Looks I'm probably going to get an aftermarket shifter. Factory shifter is missing two of the metal prongs on one side and the handle is completely missing.

I donno if you want a aftermarket shifter or just think your shifter is too damaged.

I would fix the handle prongs and order a new handle kit from Amarkamc.com. The handle is about $50.00 and can be reinforced to last a lifetime of daily driving with my mod.

Since you have a console that factory shifter would not require pulling the console for an aftermarket shifter. Or even worse cutting the console to make both fit.

Yea, I would probably pull it out. Not sure if I wanna go through the trouble of trying to put news posts in the shifter...

Have a question for anyone who might know...Did all Javelin AMX's have a tach? This one does not.

Just noticed you're in Az too. We have an active AMC club here (cactuscruisersamc.org) and a car show in Phoenix every April. Would love to see your car there next year.

I'm in the process of "refreshing" a '72 Javelin myself.

Only with a go pack option for Javelin.

If you obtain a tach, it will not match the face plate with the basic look of the Javelins 120MPH gauges.

Might as well get a complete go pack gauge cluster, or fill in he blank plate by obtaining a clock if you want a full instrument panel.

A period correct tach would be OK to have possibly steering column mounted, as it does the least damage when installed.

Yea, I was thinking about that as an option as well, but I'm really just looking for functionality at this point in time. How it stands, this car is a 10-footer, and definitely not a show car. I may go above and beyond on stuff like that in the long run, but right now I'm just looking for functional and fun.

And thank you, CamJam, I'll have to check that out. Do you guys have anything going on this "winter"?

There's the Las Vegas show, 1st week of November.  It's alot of fun, and a lot of the AZ guys make that show.  It seems to get bigger every year.

I'm sure there are other guys from Phoenix driving their AMCs up, in case you want to caravan with someone.  I always trailer mine.

There's also a Cactus Cruisers club meeting 8 a.m., first Saturday of every month in the restaurant at Deer Valley Airport.

Rear main seal is leaking, so we're gonna get that fixed. Got a steal of a deal on a Holley 4160 600 CFM carb and also just purchased a brand new Performer intake with all the extras and a Lunati V256H cam kit.

There was a shortage of the rallye wheels in mid 73 as well. My 73 Hornet X hatchback (360) came off the car carrier with the silver steelies and the volcano center caps. I had the dealer swap them for the proper wheel and tires from another car on his lot before I would take delivery.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.
