I'll be calling the AMC vendors on Monday but in the mean time I thought I would give the forum a try. This is the "long" snout screw in type. Anyone got a good source outside of the AMC vendors?

I bought one off Ebay but I'd call it the small version and didn't use it. Post a photo Ken so we can see what yours looks like.

What do they say about great minds thinking alike?

The top one is the old modulator and the lower one is the one all the auto parts stores are saying is the correct replacement. Two issues. The "auto parts stores" version is too short and can't be screwed into the transmission as it hits the case before the threads can make contact. The old one has a longer "snout" so it does not have that issue. The push rod is too long to be used in the "auto parts stores" version.

We did find a NOS replacement locally but I would still like to come up with a spare. Here is the NOS box so everyone can see the part number. I am amazed at how many time the auto parts stores are getting it so wrong on so many items anymore.

Thanks but the picture on Rock Auto looks just like the smaller incorrect version.

And that is the puzzling part as the little one will not clear the case by the the governor so you can't physically screw it in to the case. So how do you get that short replacement to work on a M11B? Thank goodness we found a NOS one for now.

It is like the output shaft seal. I don't care who we order from but every time we order an output shaft seal for a M11 they send the one for the M12 and then swear up and down that their catalogs list the same one for the M11.

Ok, ran up on some additional information.

The longer modulator uses a 3.444 inch push rod.

Robin at APD said that they did not have it on their list of available NOS parts and that Kennedy does not have it either as they exchange their lists of NOS parts.

I also ran across this information on a BW forum.

Quote Other part numbers for the long-pushrod modulator are:

Airtex 7R1001
Standard TM21
Wells TM68
KEM VM621
American Motors Corp 3187439 and 3214050
International Harvester 381978C1
