Pulling engine in the beave as freeze plug at back of head finally let go. Want to pull and replace all plugs and while its out do a few simple things without going crazy. 77 304 2 bbl with 75k. Ar runs and sounds good so im not getting into bearings unless it looks bad but I doubt it.
I do want to replace timing chain and was thinking about a small cam upgrade to give it just a little more power. I dont want to change carb so im curious if anyone has feedback on a cam that will work ok with 2 bbl carb. Summit has a k8600 anyone use one?

if you want to keep it dependable and haven't  had problems with the valve train. I would not touch it.

If I was pulling it out to replace the frost plugs, I wouldn't miss the opportunity to replace the cam, lifters and timing set.

I recommend a Comp Cams 268H for what you are doing though.

Thanks that's what I was thinking but just wanted to get a little more power without going crazy.

Summit has a cam that matches the performer cam...i used it on a 304 about 20 years ago smooth idle mild cam with just little more punch than stock..gentle on the valve train...i also used one in a 1969 ford 302 that i installed in my 77 Granada but i also added a mustang H.O. 4 barrel intake and carb....stock smooth idle but the engine was night and day when it came to power..

If you choose to change the cam just take extra good care with removal and reinstall. Other than that a small cam will give it alittle more agressive idle if not anything else.
