I had a factory Mopar Jeep starter (1992 Grand Cherokee) in my 6 cyl. gremlin stock eliminator race car. It was still working great 12 years later when I sold the car. AFAIK it's still in use. BUT, I did have to go over to the late style flex plate with the deep offset and I always started the car with the ignition off and then clicked it on. That goes a long way to starter efficiency.

Ed, will that starter work with a stick flywheel?

Which is a Wrangler flexplate with a 998 or 999 trans. That flexplate will work with a 904. The offset of the ring gear is different than the old style starter flexplates -- 4.0L starter won't engage the old flexplate properly... if at all.

There you go. (Look fellas someone answers the question asked, he gets a cookie..the rest of y’all get coal in your stocking)

That’s the company I’m leaning toward.
Electrical? Run it off the firewall solenoid or is that a delete in your situation?
Fit? Shims or yours fit like a glove?
