I personally very seldom answer an ad for car parts, cars, household items, etc. unless a price or best offer is listed. But each to their own. But an auction section sounds like it might be a good idea. May help with the cost of running this forum.
Have fun with your AMC!!!

Like I just told him - those sellers, by being cryptic jerks in their posts, are doing you a favor.... they have already sorted the chaff from the grain. Don't deal with them as they have by hiding their prices, told you up front what sorts of folks they are.................
Honest folks post a price with their parts and don't play games. So, if you look through the sale section here and see no prices, and they won't deal with you in the sale thread, but insist on emailing for prices, etc. - simply ignore their ads - avoid them.
That way, the market sorts it out and they sell nothing.
If they have no more courtesy and respect than that, do you REALLY want to trust a deal with them anyway???

OTOH, there's sometimes a reason they don't post a price, and that is the tendency for our members to do the pile-on routine... "are you a freaking idiot? No way those are worth that!"
So in some cases, I don't blame them - and frankly, any such posts need to be deleted as that's BS coming in and trashing a person's sale ad price. IF you don't like their price, DO NOT BUY, but stay the @!#%$ out of their business!
So you need to keep in mind, sometimes the reason a seller won't post the price is because of how forum members treat them........... bashing their wares and prices.

An item, ANY item, is worth what the seller and buyer agree it's worth. And if they sell for that crazy high price - then who was the crazy one? Certainly not the seller! And you don't HAVE to pay their price. It's their item - this IS America, they can charge whatever they want, no matter what I think of their price, it's their item to sell, and the buyer's money to spend.
So others should keep out of it.

Well you certainly made some good points. Thanks for the well thought out response. I guess some people have nothing better to do than antagonize sellers about their pricing.Confused

Personally, I'd like to see us have an auction section............. the software could be paid for by having say a 1% or small flat rate of a buck or something teensy (it would be just to support the software and required database, not turn into an ebait!)
But then, a lot of folks think I'm crazy anyway............

Does this fourm support private "auctions" in the for sale section? Lets say I post a part for $1.00 to start a auction for 3 days. At the end of the 3 days I pull the highest bid from the Private E-Mail bids and sell the part to that person. All private bids, and do not say who was the highest bidder unless thats OK with the winner. What do ya think?????????

Why do you think you touched a nerve? What makes you think someone here took offense?
I was simply asking why do you think it's going to make better deals?

Since you mentioned some things - here's another reply along those lines - if the seller has such a pissy-poor attitude, then you don't want to be dealing with such a jerk anyway!
IF they post a price and stick with it, then they are being square and up front, If they don't post a price and are cryptic and BSing you with the sort of reply you mention, then let them eat their precious parts and sit on them. I for one would not deal with such a person, and by being that way, they have exposed themselves for the jerks they are and have done you a big favor. Now you know to avoid such sellers.
And I for one hope those sellers are looking at this thread! HA! LOL

Duh Tongue, if you feel it was too much you shouldn't have bought it. It is ridiculous to have to e-mail some one with a offer and be told that they want "considerably" more for their part without ever getting a real answer. What is with the cryptic BS just put up your price. I seemed to have touched a nerve with what I thought was a innocent question.

Posting a price will cut down on price gouging by putting a fair market price out there. Instead of having to wonder what someone sold their rare bumper fluid reservoir for and I would be able to get a idea of it's value and thereby determine if the price is fair. How can I shop around if I have no idea what the guy wants for it? I just don't get why people have to be so protective about their stuff. I guess if you over paid to start with then you have to get every dime out of it when you sell? It is no wonder that the younder guys hot rod  Hondas and Toyotas when a 2 inch hood emblem is worth $500. I for one do not have money to waste and I have to try and get the best deals available so I am very sorry if anyone takes offense but I just feel requiring a price would help more than it hurts. Thanks

Dave
