Ian - what did you do plating or reconditioning on the exhaust hangers and clamps? I was pretty sure they were all bare metal right? You can't plate those with the rubber on them, etc. what part of the q clamps were plated?

Great looking stuff by the way!

For the hangers they remain bare metal with RPM treatment. The clamps were covered in light dusty rust, so the bracket portion was treated in evaporust and the 'hook' part was black phosphated. I did zinc the nuts although I think they weren't originally. You can zinc parts with rubber on them - I've done it before. it doesn't hurt them.

"And just for Rich, the next micro-project - the NOS trunk lid. I have to drill the holes for the luggage rack in this using my template that has been folded up since 1971 and is n two pieces - should be a fun project in the next few weeks!"

You are killing me here Ian !   LOL

Quick question .... You mentioned using RPM to coat the bare metal parts... Can you elaborate on this product and process ?

BTW ... Everything looking really nice Ian... Nice job....

Of course! RPM is a product by ECS, which is owned by Dave Walden who has built three Mopar Gold winners. Th product is kind of a paste that provides protection and is really unnoticeable by the naked eye. You heat the part up with a heat gun, then lightly brush the RPM on.

Here is the RPM:

It doesn't seem right that such a light application works, but it does. You can barely tell any of the product is being applied when done correctly. I used this on my Gremlin as well and it has help up great. Some larger parts I will go with a satin clear (cross members, drive shafts, etc) because it is difficult to heat those parts up.

Hi Ian...

Thanks for the information. I had seen that product before advertised in magazines, but couldn't remember the name. Looks like a godsend of a product. I'm planning on getting some.

Prior to this products release,I did some research a few years ago,and found a product called Permalac . I purchased a can (spray) and did a trail experiment on bare metal pieces in different environments  ie: outside in elements, inside where it's dry, different states of prep and cleanliness , etc etc... It held up very well. Still ongoing with this experiment, but like the RPM product better at this point as it's specific use is for automotive restoration ,and is proven as such. Now that I look,I started it back in 2009 .How time flys...

Luggage rack holes are drilled. I had to really piece together the original template. It may live to see another trunk lid, but it's pretty ragged! No photos of the holes in the trunk lid - too small to see!

Not sure when this was written, but this may be a rare high performance SC360 luggage rack as opposed to the standard ones

Funny sometimes what you find written on things as "ghosts" from previous owners. The rim blow wheel that you and I did a deal for had the VIN and door tag information written on the box for whatever previous project it was planned for. Funny thing was it was the exact same colour and trim combination as my car!

Looking sharp, Sir!

The special SC/360 rack borrowed technology from the Superbird to keep the rear of the car planted at the supersonic speeds that the Hornet is capable of. Ian, you'll never regret putting it on. My SC/360 gets squirrely at over 200 mph.
