Amc Owner I knew has asked me to figure out a Spare Part.
It seems to be the Heater Control Valve, havent seen this Style on my Javelins. Its leaking wthrought some pinholes. my Idea was to bring it to a Plumber and have it fixed. Some Pictures of the Part, i couldnt find something like this on the vendors Pages, but havent asked them yet. |

Holger...Your 1970 cars have the heater control valve attached to the intake manifold. In 1971 and 1972 Javelin/AMX had this type of valve attached to the heater box on passenger side of fire wall. This is a style is common on AMC and Studebakers on the 60s and 70s. They make a repair kit for them and it is pretty in-expensive. The actual valve assy is unique to differnt body styles, but the "guts" are the same.
Thisis from APD website.

These Heater Control Valves are very hard to find, if it can be fixed, I would try, NOS is long out there. VERY EXPENSIVE!!

Ross,
Since the RANCO repair kit is no longer available for the 71-72 Javeiln do you know if the guts for the Ambassador and Hornet models which are still available can be used. Rich.

Just replace it with an in-line valve unless you have to have it stock appearing. Any NAPA can get an in-line valve that just goes in the heater hose and connects to the control cable, bolts to nothing else. I don't have the application, but have one in my 63 Classic. I think it's a Chrysler original application. It's a simple on-off valve, not thermostatic like the originals. The originals would only open when the water got warm, and temp of water partially controlled flow, not just the position of the cable.
