Lisle tool works nice
A good thing to do when installing cam bearings is start at the back of the block and after you install each bearing put the cam in and spin it that way if it gets tight you know which bearing is the issue. it might be tight cuz it may not be in straight or it has a bur or just needs to be filled

Mine is home made. I made solid drivers for each bearing . The driver is a 1 in. steel bar with the tip turned down to fit into each driver. I bought the tapered cone from Snap on. I install number 5 and 4 from the front. Num. 3 from either end, 2 & 1 go in from the rear.

I have had a shop install the bearings when needed. I'd rather go that way.

Most of them use exactly the same tool as we are talking about here.
If you don´t trust your self to install bearings you should just have the shop build the rest of the engine to.

Installing cam bearings isin´t the hardest nor the most complicated part of rebuilding an engine

I use the lisle, I dont trust machine shops to do it as they always come back sanded or filed which I hate, so I just do it myself.

Another check you must do is determine if the cam is straight.

I ordered a Lunati cam through Summit. The machinist put it on his V blocks and determined it was not straight by several thousands of an inch which caused it to bind when rotated in the bearings. Don't let a bent cam fool you into thinking you've messed up the bearing install.
