I got the car in great condition, but the interior has no carpet and about 75% of the foam-like material that's stuck to the floor (assuming this was insulation/sound deadening?). Driving the car reveals a ton of heat from the firewall/automatic console. The metal is clean, so what steps are needed to get carpet/seats back in? Should I scrape off the existing foam material to bare metal and start from scratch? Is there a sound deadener/heat insulator combo? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Brian

The original factory applied sound deadener was an asphalt based sheet material with a thick heavy paper facing. You can replace it with one of the new materials that are foil faced such as DynaMat and similar products that are self adhesive. The foil side faces the carpet.
