I'm planning out an A/C install for my 68 AMX and was wondering if anyone has found a good donor for a late model style condenser and maybe drier?

There's a lot of space up in front of the radiator so I expect there should be lots of possibilities. I haven't been able to find any sort of list of condenser dimensions on the internet - that would be too easy, right?

I already have all the stock stuff under the dash - at least I was smart enough to install all of that 20 years ago. I've got a couple Sanden compressors so hopefully I can get one together that works, and even have the massive stock aluminium Sanden bracket.

Thanks for the help guys - A/C is a new adventure for me.

I use a new parallel flow condenser from ackits.com. I pick the largest one that will physically fit in the car because the more heat it rejects the colder I get.

Located usually near Rochester, NY and sometimes central FL.

I measured the old 1968 serpentine condenser and the core is 13"x24". The radiator is 24" wide as well, so that makes sense.

The space between the lower radiator crossmember and the upper would probably allow a 14" tall condenser, but the sheetmetal shaping on either side of the area slopes to a smaller height so it'd probably interfere with connections. I think a 13" height is probably the way to go.

The aftermarket parallel flow condensers include the width of the header tubes on each side when they give the dimensions, so a 24" wide unit really has a core width of something closer to 22"-22.5". With that in mind I think a 26" wide unit would make sense as it would have 24"-24.5" of true finned core.

There is a 13"x26" unit available. They offer it as a kit with receiver/drier, switch, and some fittings for about $60.

The down side is that both connections are on the same side, but I suppose I could bend up a hard line to run the upper connection across under the boomerang panel over to the passenger side of the car.

That kit looks like a great deal. If anyone buys one please let us know how it fit. Thinking that getting the a/c operating on my '72 might be my next project after I finish my transmission swap.

I'm using a Chrysler LH platform (93-04 Concorde, Intrepid, LHS, Vision) parallel flow in mine. Fit well. I had to make aluminum brackets that screw to the radiator support. Used a small bolt through the find to attach to the condensor as I had no way to weld aluminum. Been running it since 2003 with issues.
