I cruised the Champion Radiator website looking for an aluminum radiator for my 66 Rogue, 232 AT. They don't appear to stock one. Any suggestions where I can find one? Thanks all!

I believe a 70-85 Jeep CJ radiator is the same size. Might have to alter the mounts by drilling different holes and possible using spacers. Measure your existing radiator and compare. The overall size on the Champion site includes the brackets and tanks. Measure the core as well as overall size of your original, look at pics to determine if the brackets will work. The brackets on the Champion may be wider than stock.

'EC 407' = Champion 2-Row for Javelin -this unit has the brackets facing the rear/flush with rear face of the radiator
-just used longer bolts to fit the Jav rad to Gremlin (works fine like this 'cause it's so lightweight?) I believe the Jeep CJ versions have an angled up lower outlet that won't work good in a car application... but the sizes are the same (for full size Jeep trucks also) Main difference amongst the cars is which way the side brackets face; some are flush with the front side of the radiator (Grem/Hornet), some are flush with the backside of the radiator (Jav/AMX/Rebel) -as far as I know... The Champion radiators are slightly better quality than Speed Daddy (and slightly more expensive) -better polished tanks -better quality brass drain petcock... Speed Daddy has plastic petcock knob and side bracket might need a corner trimmed off slightly so it doesn't rub... both have auto trans cooler fittings in stock location Both my Champion and Speed Daddy units have their overflow tube fitting on the 'wrong' side of the rad cap filler opening (this is correct for Jeeps though? where the overflow tube goes toward the passenger side?) I had to trim the sides off the dual electric fans that came with Speed Daddy unit for Rebel (rather easy though with a fine toothed sawblade) = mine did not fit like the picture shown in the advertisement: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=Speed+Daddy+aluminum+radiator+for+AMC+Rebel+dual+fans&_sacat=0 -notice Speed Daddy unit has more of a 'satin' finish Here's an advertisement pic for Champion, showing Grem/Hornet front facing side mounts: https://www.ebay.com/itm/A-C-Heavy-Duty-3-Row-DR-Radiator-70-71-72-73-74-75-76-77-78-AMC-Gremlin/151604277115?hash=item234c51af7b:g:h3kAAOSwXetZSDm- IMO, rarely ever is a 3-row needed. IMO, as I understand it, the 2-row versions are lighter, offer better airflow through the core and may work even better for most applications... (I have a Champion 2-row on 443 XRV8 Gremlin with aero hood/grille blocking off more than 80% of the grille area and that engine has no problem keeping it's cool... never overheated/go figure...) Farna is right about possibly needing to drill new side bracket holes: I bought a $280 brass radiator from "AMC Lives" Cocoa Beach FL made for Javelin to use on '65 Marlin and the holes needed to be moved up or down about 3/4" (can't remember which way/long time ago) everything else fit correct though... maybe something similar for Gremlin to Rambler American radiator swap (assuming the side brackets face the same way...) Sheesh, now's a great time to buy a low cost excellent aluminum radiator & keep your stock brass one for restoration purposes? Edited by amcenthusiast - Sep/09/2018 at 12:29pm |

Used the same '407' Champion rad in my '65 American, fit perfectly EXCEPT needing to move the mounting holes up I think 1 inch, hood wouldn't close if just bolted in. The hole relocation cured this. Old 232 runs nicely at 186 degrees even on the hottest days. And have we had quite a few of those this year. Hope this helps.

Many AMC cars have the overflow nipple on the passenger side. My original 63 American and Classic radiators did. No tank back then, just a hose. I bet the neck changed in the 70s when recovery tanks became common. My FSJ radiator has the nipple in the same position, could be a Jeep thing...
