Looking for advice on modifying the bottom of my stock 1967 air cleaner. This unit has the small neck and I'm going to use an Edelbrock AVS2 with the 5 1/8 neck. I want to use the original air cleaner. Anybody done this? Is my best bet to find a 5 1/8 neck and fab it up or use an Edelbrock open element air cleaner base and fab that in? I'm using a cast iron intake, so no high-rise action should permit the use of the factory air cleaner, as long as it clears the carb.

Couldn't you use a bottom section from a 68 to 70 2bbl.

My 71 2bbl air cleaner has a ventri like bevel bottom ring that allows better air flow.

I used my 73 2bbl air cleaner on my Holly 650 cfm dbl pumper with its own base spacer/adapter that came with it. Even though the diameter was correct, the height of the fuel inlets kept the stock air cleaner from seating without it.

Donno if Eddie carbs come with such adapters for cross compatibility between carb swaps.

I thought of using a section out of an air cleaner that came on a car with the Thermoquad, Holley, or any other carb with a 5 1/8 neck, too. What two-barrel carbs had a 5 1/8 neck on them?

If i am not mistaken, Motorcraft 2bbl and 4bbl,  Holley 2bbl and 4bbl carbs have the same size necks.
