I need to get some keys made for the trunk of my '63 American. I read somewhere that the lock from the glovebox is the same as the trunk one, so I can bring the glovebox lid to the locksmith and the key from it will unlock the trunk. Is that true? Just wanted to double check before spending money getting a key made.

Might not be relevant to your 1963 American, but when I made a key to fit a later Jeep glove box lock (1987), the door and glovebox in that vehicle used the same key, but the glove box had one less tumbler. So in that case, a key made for the door would fit the glove box, but a key made for the glove box wouldn't have the last tumbler cut for the door. I'd pull the trunk lock just to be sure. For what it's worth, I pulled the lock apart, and made a key to match the tumblers with a file, it's not that hard if you have patience.
