In the next week, I will be concentrating on the top side of the Jav/AMX. Among the jobs to be completed are the installation of the Vinyl Top, along with the bead blasted and SEM trim black painted Canopy mldgs. Also, installation of the windshield and the stainless mldgs, as well as the stainless drip rail edge mldgs. I will post pics as the progress continues.
First up, I needed to scuff up the vinyl top areas to give the glue something to "bite" into.... Next, I trial fit the qtr mldg trim for the top. Note that the correct vinyl grain is cast into this piece. There's no getting the grain wrong with that reminder! I also trial fit the "AMX" emblems on the quarter panels. I have both NOS and the current reproduction emblems. I thought I would show here the difference between the two. Note on the repops, the red "A" is much brighter, and the blue "X" is much darker. Which do you prefer?

This weekend, we installed the vinyl canopy tops and mldgs, along with the new windshield and drip rail mldgs. The canopy mldgs gave the most trouble,as the replacement style clips are not exact copies of the originals. Luckily, I had some orignals nearby.Special thanks to Bob and Kev for helping me with the "A" pillar trim!

Scott, that looks awesome. Can't wait to see it in person... I know you'll be at the show in Syracuse but are you going to the AMO show in Andover too? I've got that week off so I'll be at both...

Yep, super job. Keep the photos coming. What did you use to seal the sides of the top where it goes into the drip rail?

I like the color on the repops. Better match to the color on the car, IMHO. |

Thanks! We used the vinyl top contac spray glue, and formed a "U" bringing the vinyl up to meet the inner top of the drip rail.A small amount of urethane was used also. You don't think I'm getting this car wet do you, lol! Joe, I have reservations all set for Andover.....Gas prices will dictate what I bring!

IMHO, I would use the NOS and take some Testors red enamel model paint, thin it down and paint the red to make it brighter. I like the blue on the NOS emblem much better and it's a nicer contrast to your blue color. A very nice job overall Scott Edited by 70 Donohue 390 - Mar/11/2012 at 8:41pm |
