On my project I could use a deeper  fan-spacer ,now using  2-5/8 is there a 3" on longer hood cars of older years.?  OR can I stack a ONE INCH spacer in front of the 2-5/8  and not  compromise the bearing in the water pump.?  Any ideas , thanks.

Well, where is the fan blade edges located in the shroud. Stock should be pretty much optimum. Any movement forward will cause air to recirculate on the outer corners of the radiator as draw will only pull from the inside radius of the fan. Having the fan located where the back of the blades ar even with the opening of the shroud will pull at maximum.

GM used a more advanced design where the shroud had a deeper venturi to allow more pull on complete surface area, by allowing the fan to be further away from the radiator. Thus increasing efficency.

Too close lowers cooling efficency if the enclosure around the fan is not proper for such distance.

Fan now sits 1/3 into shroud... I'd prefer 1/2 in 1/2 out as other factory late models I've seen and Street Rods etc...This is not stock location on my radiator.
I know 1/3 fan- in -shroud should be fine,, but while I'm doing a fit I want to get max- air movement.

Donno, you may see if a large body 304 automatic with A/C spacer is closer. It seems to me they are fairly long, but i do not have my original anymore to measure.

Maybe someone can provide info on such spacer by measuring.

Measure your bolt circle dimension before ordering, but this should fit:

Are we going for stock or a resto-mod?

If restomod, do yourself a favour and just get an electric fan.

I have a pile of them at the shop. I'll measure them and see if there's a 3 inch version for you.

New idea,, considering extending the shroud LIP 1/2 " using light weight alum riveted to inside of the  shroud. That will keep the factory spacer within spec of AMC ( not to beat-up the water-pump bearing) with  5/8" longer spacer if I stack  two. That will give me 50%in & 50% out of shroud

That can work as long as you don't mind modifying your shroud.

I actually thought about adding that to my reply, but thought it was something you may not want to do for appearances sake.

If thin enough, i would fold it over, so it will have a smooth edge, like a lip. It will also mount sandwiching the lip of the shroud. The diameter of the opening maybe large enough not to kink or crease the aluminium as your arc it around the circumference.

There's no concern on altering the shroud as the car is a 4 dr and now has a 401,,not like Im keeping it stock,, ONLY the outside is stock to view.  The  lip fits the inner-shroud very good and conforms to the arc.
