Not to add information that isn't warranted, but I started doing some research yesterday in my hometown's Local History section and found some interesting stuff about the Rockford, IL area.

I've read all 26 pages of this thread and it inspired me to go looking for the past dealers.

I had also hit a local LKQ u-pull yard looking for a decent 4.0 and came across a WESTSIDE AMC Jeep Renault sticker on the trunk lid of a very sad Renault.

Anyone know of that dealer?

so this is the place in the movie.  so if any amc fans want to see an amc dealership in a movie, you can watch 'the towering inferno' from 1974 and you can see 'boas amc' in the film.

How about Avenue Rambler also in San Francisco? When we picked up our AMX in San Leandro in Nov. '99, there was a faded & peeling Avenue Rambler dealership sticker on the trunk lid (now long gone since it was blasted and repainted).
Avenue Rambler became BOAS AMC at 1601 Van Ness

Here are some more ads-the first three also had Hurst SS/AMXs.  And a few for Mark in Chicago.

hi all.

in 1973 we picked up a new ambassador wagon at the dealership in san francisco on van ness.  1601 or 1701, i'm not sure now, there is a toyota dealership there now at 1701.  we lived in okinawa, japan, and my dad ordered it from the military sales there for pickup stateside.  then my parents and six of us kids went on a month-long vacation to seattle(family), saskatchewan(family), north dakota(family), and then sightseeing back to the coast.  the car was then shipped to okinawa.  i always remember that dealership as it was the beginning of one of the best adventures of my life.
the "towering inferno" came out the next year and i always thought that dealership was in the film.  in the opening scenes when the fire trucks are rolling, there is a shot of a dealership as the trucks roll by.

when i moved to the US in '78,  i lived in san bernardino, ca and i seem to remember 'jack coyle amc' painted on the wall across from the alpha beta at baseline and 'd' st.  the heritage site says it was someone else, but thats the name i remember.
