I am not sure where I saved these photos from years ago, but there was no article with them.

Anyone know who did it or how it actually worked out using this suspension?

Reminds me of UnclJohn's reply to my thread. He posted his 70s AMC uspension swap in a Rambler. Though he never mentioned a mustang II setup, so those pix are still a mystery.

looks a wee bit unfinished. were they planning motor plates?
heidts makes a nice 54" track width mustang II front suspension. same as the rambler, no?
a bit pricey.

this may be the route to go here. make it to fit.

What kit did you use?

Did it maintain the correct track width?

Did you ever drive the car after you finished the transformation?

Thanks,
Tom

The Mustang II has nothing over the original Rambler suspension. You can get rebuild kits for the trunnions and there are several options for larger disc brakes (Scarebird, Willwood, Aerospace components). The high spring is much more roll resistant so you don't really need much sway bar -- stiffer springs will help handling a lot more than a bar.

The only two things the MII has over the original are:
1. You can get more caster. The original will only go to about 3 degrees positive caster before the trunnion binds.
2. You can take the spring towers out and gain more side to side room if you want to run a big block or some other really large motor. Most modern V-8s will fit the 64+ cars, but you might need the room for something like a Ford modular OHC V-8.

It's a lot less work and cost to build the original than to replace it.

Thus the reason to find another front suspension.

nope, never drove it but the guy that ended up with it ran a 13.2 at 5800 ft with a stone stock 5.3....
I imagine it drove just like any other MII I've installed ( a bunch) and btw, it's a heidts crossmember for a 62-67 nova, had to ad 3/8" on each side and remove the same from the hats..and yes, what ever a MII had, it had for track width

Tom,

Did it lower the frontend any or did remain about the stock ride height?

Thanks,
Tom
