Enhancement of the heads (by jcisworthy) has begun. Three photos below. I'm planning for max torque and a 6000 redline instead of a lopey race setup, so the heads will definitely be overkill. I'd need a race setup, mongo springs, giant cam, zongo converter, and the rest to make the most of John's head work. But, I'll for sure have the option to go full motard one day if I want to. More info below. These heads will have a competition valve job, stainless Ferrea racing valves - lighter 8mm ones that'll lighten the valvetrain (2.055" intake and 1.65" exhaust), and PAC beehive springs instead of double springs to be easier on the valvetrain and cam. The exhaust crossover passages will be blocked to keep things cool. Edited by 67 Marlin - Dec/30/2023 at 9:44pm |

The head work is progressing nicely. Two photos and more info below. Most 343 heads are #3188558, same as all 1968 and 1969 390 heads and even some Machine heads (the rest of the Machine heads were #3196291). Some early 1967 343 heads were #3178453, and mine were two of them. #3178453 is a 290 head number. The earliest 343 heads had 290 casting numbers and then were machined for 343 motors with bigger valves. Edited by 67 Marlin - Dec/30/2023 at 9:47pm |

That's some nice work that you're are doing there! I will be curious to hear the results when everything is done and the car is back on the road.

Powder coated the pulleys. The previous owner replaced the water pump about 1,200 miles ago, and it already has a wobble. Apparently this is what caused AMC to go to a short pump shaft in 1968. Acquired a new 1968-1972 short-style pump from Galvin's and matching short pulley from a forum member. The 1967 pump height was 5.688 inches and the 1968-1972 model was 4.438. The later fan spacer is 1.5 inches longer than the earlier one so I ordered fan bolts that were 1.5 inches longer than the originals; because of their length, I went with Grade 8 ones.

Figured a radiator service is in order since the motor will be nice and tight the next time the cooling system is operational. Flushed, boiled, vibra-sounded, pressure-tested, inspected, hose castings and sides reinforced, and fins straightened. Edited by 67 Marlin - Feb/02/2020 at 5:43pm |

I asked the shop to leave the service tag from a past service on the radiator. The Marlin was bought new in the Seattle area and spent its life there prior to me finding it in 2015, so the radiator service tag helps to affirm its Pacific Northwest pedigree. Found these beauties on eBay. The original blue paint in the center "caldera" is pristine. Maybe they were never on a car? These wheel covers are specific to the 1967 AMC Marlin. The 1965/1966 Rambler Marlins also had their own wheel covers, but they were slightly different - the center area is taller and narrower and the paint is an aqua color and not this cool electric blue. I paid $250 for the set. Thought it over half a dozen times, then figured I'd never see a set that looks this good again. Most I'll ever spend on wheel covers in my life, but ah heck if I wanted it cheap and easy I'd get a Chevelle. Like my old Golden Gloves coach used to say, "if it's easy, it's wrong."

Your radiator looks good. I like the tag that the shop put on, I am going to show that to my radiator man. Having AMC Fun, Ollie
