Oh yeah Andrew,
Forgot to mention - probably not to many "brains" would know this one LOL Back in the day when my old man worked at the AMC plant he would bring home radios (sure wish I had some of those NOS radio's now !). I installed one in my '67 Biscayne - (probably) like you I didn't want to cut a hole in the fender for an antenna. Someone told me to mount it under the car, so I did. I made an L - shape bracket to go off the tranny crossmember and ran the antenna longitudinally - worked great ! Read later on that there are radio "ground" waves and that is why it worked. Sooo if you don't live in the middle of anal intercourse Iowa (too far for radio reception) this could work for you also ! |

Some "ecomodders" (people who modify cars for higher mpg through many different things such as engine work, aerodynamics, and alternate fuel hybrids) run their antennas along the A pillar on the inside of the car. I don't see how it would affect their mpg at all unless they have some ridiculous antenna, but they're hobbyists and they do what they do.

As much stuff that was stolen from the company over the years I'm surprised that they didn't fold much sooner than they did. |

Incredible the waste that went on / goes on.
They used to "write off" ton's of stuff - take all those brand new parts (the radio's were part of it) - smashing them up with slege hammers and throwing them in the scrap bins. |

That AM/CB wouldn't fit in a 72 Gremlin dash without cutting, would it?

It's late, I'm tired so maybe I'm reading this wrong but, did you straight up call his dad a thief and responsible for the companys downfall without knowing anything about the situation?
I knew a guy that worked at the plant here in Ontario. Brampton, Bramalea? I forget which.
He told me if a vehicle rolled off the line, but was deemed unfit for sale it was recycled. Not repaired or otherwise made fit for sale. That seems to me a big waste.
He told me a story, something about he had the keys for a bunch of cars one day that he left in a Jeep when he went for lunch. Someone told him they were ready to recycle the jeep, and he said OK, take it away, but he forgot about the keys being in it still. By the time he was finished lunch, the Jeep was a cube of metal. They pried the cube apart to get to the keys.
True or not, I don't know, this was an old barfly recounting some stories the first time he saw my Gremlin.

I don't think the key would work anymore
![]() My brother is a mechanic at a Yamaha dealership but he also sees what goes on outside the garage. Helmets are DOT certified for one accident/drop/bang/you get what I'm saying. In other words, if a helmet is dropped, scratched, dented, etc it is not able to be sold as it is no longer DOT certified and Yamaha can't take the risks of selling it. In the end the helmets usually end up in the trash...obviously there's a flaw in this logic where a floor employee can harm a helmet while stocking it to get it thrown out. Luckily when it comes to recalls and damaged vehicles if Yamaha needs a vehicle "disposed" of so to say they don't allow the dealer to do it, they pay the shipping costs to take the product back to the factory to deal with it. |
