The Shannon's Javelin has gotten a lot of ink elsewhere on the forum.

Having said that...thanks for the link.

Gotta love our Aussie friends...

Yes, pretty old news, he actually smashed it and it was written off at the last race of it's fisrt season. Still building the replacement last I heard, so he is back racing the old Falcon Sprint and currently leading the championship.

Thought I'd post this up since you can see the new Javelin in the works behind Richards in the video, even though there's really no mention of the car.  Still nice to see the project to rebuild/reconstruct is ongoing!

Thanks for posting that JAV74, that is the closest I've seen to an update in a very long time (trust me I've been actively looking).

Of course, if I had to describe that video with words, it would be just one: TEASE!

Better than nothing, however by looks of the car in the video, it looks like we won't be seeing the Javelin on the track till next season, as they only have one race left this season.
Nothing against the Falcon Sprint, but I would really love to see that Javelin back on the track instead.

The engine build for the Aussie jav is worth reading if you can find it.

It's a Dodge engine, isn't it?

Posted By: Javelin74
Date Posted: Aug/18/2014 at 8:32pm
Yes, but it's still an interesting build because of how the rules required it to be built.  The whole build of the Javelin 1.0 (since 2.0 is in the works) is actually a really neat read.  I have the magazine I ordered from Australia that talks about it at home.

Posted By: Rogue401

Not knocking it. Just saying. I enjoy reading most all engine builds (except for another SBC). You always learn something. I'd love to read the article, especially about the body and suspension.

2015 TCM schedule...for us on the State side, we usually have to wait for Youtube to watch the races, unfortunately. I've been able to find live streams a couple of times, but only two or three a year and just one or two of the 3 heats. You can also go to the Natsoft website to watch live scoring/timing if you can't wait to see results. It includes practice and qualifying times, too. Great site!

Little bit of detail here, you can't see too much, but these things are serious race cars built with big budgets so cop plenty of high end bits in terms of brake and suspension upgrades.

The engine note indicates it would be responsive once the engine's tuned.

The Jim Richards Javelin was involved in a big accident at the weekend:

http://www.supercars.com/videos/support-categories/huge-touring-car-masters-crash-in-adelaide/?sf60206074=1" rel="nofollow - http://www.supercars.com/videos/support-categories/huge-touring-car-masters-crash-in-adelaide/?sf60206074=1

The Mustang was pretty much destroyed, haven't seen how much damage there was on the Javelin, but hopefully it is repairable.

Can't seem to keep them Fords from banging up that pretty sheet metal!!  I see the next event isn't for a couple months so hopefully it can get straightened out by then but I imagine Jimmy can't get it dialed in if he's constantly rebuilding the thing every several sessions.

I wonder what intake(s) that one was made from. Notice the welds on the runners. Very cool and gets me pumped up wanting to build one! Also I wonder why they simply wouldn't use a common coil over? Rule thing?  Lots of little details to ponder.....

From what I remember it runs a Mopar block with AMC bore and stroke, Indy heads. Suspension has to resemble the factory setup, they have some latitude to move pickup points a little bit. These are best described at tribute cars, they are not historic race cars except for the body, so the rules are pretty flexible.

In some ways I think is has got a little too serious on the racing side and there is a little too much car damage these days. Great for the spectators and TV audience, but never good to see old cars getting smashed up. You would need to lay down at least $100K to run in this series.

For those fans of the Jim Richards racing humpy down under a bit of an update. The car has been completely rebuilt after its shunt in Adelaide last year. However, the Touring Car Masters is getting very serious, almost take no prisoners type racing and expensive. So Jim has part retired (70+) and has parked the car but will do a few selected races in his Falcon Sprint, including this weekend in Darwin.
Cost to race one of the cars competitively and seriously, closer to $25-30k per meeting.

Peter Schulte and Stockhill Built Racing are constructing a 70 Javelin with AMC power (not a mopar engine) to race in the same series as Richards I believe.
They aren't having any trouble with "parts" like Richards claims.

Here's a couple of photos of the car, there's a bunch more on Facebook about this car

They are going to be racing in a smaller state based Trans AM tribute series that is a step down from the national Touring Car Masters series that Richards runs in. Certainly looking forward to seeing this one run though.

Terry Carter was/is the owner. As mentioned by Western Red above a TransAm series runs in Queensland , Australia. Basically to the same spec as the original USA but with some control items, tyres, wheels, brakes to keep cost down. This car was crashed late '14 or early '15 and haven't heard of it but will ask a few QLD mates.

Just like "asif", I watch all the TCM that I can get (on YouTube).
I have been completely denied the last 2 rounds at Winton & Hidden Valley.
Do any of my Australian AMC brothers know where, or how, I can get video of these last 2 rounds.
I am completely at the mercy of the YouTube posters, and I check The site every single day, but I have been completely denied.
What do you say guys?
What can I do?
I wish we had something like TCM here in the States.

g-man

PS: I also watch and enjoy Australian Trans-Am

For those who follow the series, I guess this is always going to be an issue where you have a mixed Pro/Am driving line up.

Darren,

Thanks for the article.
The link didn't work for me, but I found it anyway.
The article was a little disconcerting, I have really enjoyed this racing series more than any other racing series, anywhere in the world.
Of course it really was a pleasure to see JR running the Javelin.
Oh well...I hope that the series continues.
Even without JR's Javelin, I will continue to watch as much as I can see over here, for as long as the series continues.
Thanks,

g-man
