HI

Missus Sheila and I just acquired a 1960 Rambler Deluxe.  Due to age and what not, it does not have seat belts in it.

Because we plan on doing some long distance highway driving, we do want seat belts - and it makes us feel better.

Done a bunch of searching online and have seen different manufacturers and styles.

Our question:  What would be a preferred source for seat belts?

At present we are considering lap belts only so as to avoid the headache of drilling in to the B post and doing other modifications.

Click on "How To Install" then look at the "55 Chevy" and "56 Ford Wagon" installations. If you're comfortable with lap belts only look at the "62 Ford Galaxy" install.

I have late 1980s (I think either an 88 or 89) S-10 Blazer belts in my car. Rather than weld a plat in for the upper mounts I ran a bolt completely through the B pillar between the doors. You only see the head of the bolt when the doors are open, it's hardly noticeable if painted the color of the jamb. I bolted the lower retractor to the floor, just as it was in the Blazer IIRC. Works great! I also have lap belts in the back, came from some early 90s Nissan I found in the pick-n-pull yard. They are from a sedan, but the retractors were fully covered. I bolted the retractors to the tops of the rear wheel wells in my wagon. Look ok and work great!

You do need some kind of floor reinforcement. I used large fender washers (above an below if the belt mount isn't very big). If I hit something hard enough to pull one of those through the floor I have other worries... or most likely no need to worry about anything any more...

Thanks Frank

I saw another reference to Juliano's so I am getting some trust with them.

Right now it will simply be Missus Sheila and myself in the car, so I might just go with the front belts for now.

Thanks again.

I haven't bought from Juliano's before, but have known a few hot rodders who have. They specialized in seat belts a long time ago! The alternative is to go junkyard crawling until you find something you think you can fit in, like I did. A lot of rodders are going to the late model seats that have the belts built in, but they just look too modern for me. I like to update my old drivers some, but still keep them sort of period looking. The square back power buckets I have in mine look like they belong -- except for the "hollow"head rests. They still don't look too out of place though. Seats are early 90s Eagle Premier... but just by luck. I was looking for a K-car derivative (like a LeBaron) with good seats in a local pick-n-pull back in 2001-2002 when I found the Premier. AMC related was a plus (though they are Renault sourced seats, I think), and the right color! Pulled and use the console and rear seat as well, though had to do some modifying on the rear seat to make it fit. Can't fold the seat back down without removing the bottom first, but not really an inconvenience as I don't haul a lot in it.
