While driving to the garage for the first time on the highway, I quickly noticed that the needle on the speedometer wasn't giving an accurately reading and basically was bouncing back and forth the whole time. My buddy mentioned that is was probably a loose connection with the speedometer cable. Went to take a look, and couldn't find the cable or where it was supposed to come out from the dash and then connect to.

Any help locating it would be much appreciated!

A bouncing needle lots of times means the cable needs to be lubed,  the  grease in it is probably decades old and hard as a rock, not doing much lubricating.

You have to get down in the floor reach up under the dash,  approximately behind the center of the speedometer you'll find a about 1/4 inch metal sheathed cable,  from the back of the speedometer through the firewall,  then curving back to under the floor to the tail housing of the transmission.

You need to take it loose from the back of the speedometer,   There's a sheetmetal clip that holds it to the back of the speedometer,  or a screw on casing.    Take it loose also from the transmission end.  Flush out all the old dried out grease,  inspect the cable for holes or sharp bends,  install lots of lithium grease,  reinstall.

You'd find it much easier to understand if you had a  TSM  for your car.

Same thing was happening on my Javelin.  Mine would occasionally make a grinding noise and the needle would jump up to 100 mph or so too. A little 3-in-1 oil where the cable inserts into the back of the speedometer fixed it for me.

If you have the speedometer or instrument cluster out it would be a good idea to simply pull the speedo cable core out of the cable sheath to give it a thorough cleaning by wiping it down with a solvent or WD 40 to soften and remove any old lubricant. You can then shoot some light oil down in the sheath and lube the core. Slide it back in and rotate it if necessary so it will reengage and seat into the drive gear at the other end.
