Do the GM and Chrysler transmissions used in AMC applications have different bolt patterns (than their native counterparts) where they mate to the bellhousings? The shop dyno adapter doesn't mate to the AMC block and an AMC bellhousing pattern won't mate to it either. Pretty sure their dyno has a GM or Mopar pattern, so wondering if those bells used in AMCs and Jeeps had those bolt patterns at the trannies or if the bolt patterns were unique to AMC.

The AMC Torqueflite pattern is specific to AMC and NOT the same as the Mopar TF. The GM 400, can't say. Just out of curiosity, which dyno shop are you using?

Dang it. So, if someone needed to swap their 727, they wouldn't be able to take the case out of a Mopar and bolt it to their 727 AMC bellhousing in their car, they'd specifically need a 727 from another AMC car? Dakota Engine Builders in Jamestown is doing the motor, they have a SuperFlow dyno.

I had checked with a late Jeep Th400 v8 flexplate to an aftermarket GM Th400 torque converter. They are the same 3 bolt spacing, and had no installation alignment issues.
For any performance setups, an SFI flexplate or a 72 on up AMC flexplate for your engine, that is properly drilled for GM conveter, will will work up to 500HP. Edited by 304-dude - Feb/05/2019 at 9:34am |

GM Turbo 400 as placed behind 1972 up Jeep Truck and Wagoneer with AMC Engine has a specific AMC pattern bolt pattern, exactly like the Torqueflight......all internals are basically the same as each native trans.

To clarify - the bolt patterns between the bell and tranny case were AMC-specific. Want to clarify that I'm not referrring to the block/bell bolt pattern. I have a 1967 343 with the "flat flange" crank, so assuming they can jig something up. Was hoping I could grab a 727 or TH400 bellhousing to solve that part of the problem.

Here is a comparison of stock flexplate for late Jeep Th400 and advance adapters kit with a modified 72 on up tranny flexplate. Not tge flexplate will work on both types of torque converters.

The aluminum case TF does not have a separate 'bell housing', it is all one case. I was curious if you were using RevSearch in Center. A good dyno shop.

The early AMC Borg Warner Automatic Transmissions had separable Aluminum Bell Housings.
I don't know if the Transmission Case side is the same as a Ford FMX Auto Trans or not?
Sounds like you are asking about getting an AMC V8 hooked up to the Dyno. Unsure if the AMC Manual Transmission Bellhousing does have an AMC specific Trans Mtg Pattern but the 1971 and earlier AMC Borg Warner Automatic Transmissions also have a separable Aluminum Bellhousing and on the Transmission Case Side it MAY BE the same Trans Case Bolt Pattern as the Ford FMX Automatic Transmission. You got it, Phat. Just need something that has a commonly used bolt pattern.
How about the Jeeps that that T176 trannies in the mid/late 70s, did those have bellhousings with Ford bolt-patterns for the trannies?
