Your current carburetor is not a 1-barrel. It is the original 2-barrel Holley model 2209.

I very strongly advise against installing that other carburetor you have. As somebody said before, it is a RACING carburetor and doesn't even have a choke. Cold starts and warmup would be absolute heck and it is also WAY oversized for your engine. It would not run well.

Stick with your existing carburetor. It is sized just about right for your engine and should do a pretty good job.

It the replacement carb is a 4412 it
may run ok, and add a bit of "punch"
BUT it will eat a lot more fuel.

I agree, don't do it.

It seems the consensus is that I shouldn't use the 650cfm 2bbl. I guess now my question would be, is it worth it to change to a different carb? I would like something with a bit more punch to it but what all can I do to achieve that?

If it was my car and i wanted to change the carb. i would use a factory 4 barrel intake and an electric choke 500cfm Edelbrock with a factory air cleaner...Your increase will be limited by many other factors...

Have your carb rebuilt by a pro.

A 287 and 4 barrel don't mix for typical cruising IMO. Some have done it but with a stock 287 it adds little, especially if a budget is in play. 4 bbl intakes typically sell for $250 or so.
A Holley 2 bbl 2300 with List# of 4412 is a good option.   Rebuilding the 2209 is the easiest thing to do, especially if it's an automatic car. Having the correrct linkage to the transmission is crucial.

I got to disagree.
4412 Holleys are best used as desk top conversation pieces.
They are NOT a street carb.
