Can anyone tell me if the radiator for a 69 AMX is the same as a 70 Javelin? What is the correct part number? Is the radiator for a 390 the same as a 304? Wasn't there a heavy duty cooling option...part number for that radiator? Thanks!

See this recent topic. It should provide the answer:
http://theamcforum.com/forum/radiator-numbers-blackstone-modine-mccord_topic66618_page1.html?KW=blackstone+radiator A '69 AMX radiator with Heavy Duty Cooling or AC should be either a 3194332 or a 3190477. |

I'm restoring a 70 Javelin 390 4speed. Would it be the same radiator? I have a chance to buy one out of a 69?

My 69 Go-Pack car (with HD cooling) had 3198049, as did others on that thread both with and without A/C. That part number actually seemed to be one of the most common of all. |

Cam's right. That number is a valid one also for '69 and for '70.

I just went over the thread referenced above and was reminded of my own postings on there. Here it is cut and pasted:
"I have a friend up here in the Yukon that has several 390 4 speed 1970 Javelin SST's. I just got a quick look at them and found some interesting stuff. I was unable to verify HDC for any of them, but none were A/C cars. #1) Production late September 1969, date code unk(can get soon) rad part # 319 0478 #2) Production date mid December 1969, Date code K9 (Sept '69) rad part # 319 8049 #3) Production date late February 1970, Date code A0 (January 1970) Rad part number 319 0478 It is interesting because yet again we find that the mystery part number shows up (3190478) in several of the cars. " Car #1 is made one month after mine and is a low mileage survivor with very few changes that I can see. I am going to go in the next few days and have another look at it and see if I can find the date code on the rad. I am also not sure if it is a HDC car, but will check it for clues. Car #2 is a bit later and has another known and accepted part number (319 8049)with an October 69 date code on a January 70 built car. Possibly original radiator too, though it is a few months wider on the date codes than I might have thought. Car #3 is a BBB Donohue, with a January date code on the rad, a February code on the car itself(acceptable for an MD I believe) and again, 319 0478 radiator part number. It seems to me that these are pretty good indicators of the 319 0478 unit being factory and 4 speed specific. I will be even more confident depending on car #1's radiator date code, but overall there is an emerging trend at least among this sampling of vehicles. Seems a bit too coincidental for all three of them with the date codes and build dates and the part numbers being what they are. I am going to check to see if I can find any signs of HDC on any of them. None are AC cars. I recall anecdotally hearing that the radiators without provisions for auto trans cooler lines were factory installs and that they were built in smaller, infrequent batches. The trans cooler equipped rads were made in bigger numbers because A) more cars were automatics and B) they could be used on the assembly line or as replacements in any car. Makes sense, but that doesn't mean it's true. Chris
