I am adding the ac components to a non-ac car. I have a few questions about the install. How is the evaporator box installed to the firewall, bolted in? I found a hole by where the hoses pass through that lines up with the box and used a 1/4-20 bolt to secure it there. My problem is that when I try to bolt the passenger side the hole in the firewall is about an inch farther if it was to line up.

Old post by now, so perhaps you figured this out already.  Not sure how it attaches as I haven't had mine out yet, but there were two different a/c evaporator housings in '71 and '72 depending on the type of evaporator.  See below.  Perhaps this is why your holes don't line up.

The housing for type 1 was P/N 3210602 and type 2 was 3216526.

Looks to me that heater/blower housing was the same for both, but some had three cables on heater control and some had four.  I assume this would be when they went over to using a vacuum control for the heater valve.

Ok, thanks for the reply camjam. That makes sense I was able to wedge the other side of the evaporator box with the center dash. My evaporator is the vacuum switch style. Probably why that mount doesn't match up. I was debating on making a bracket to mount it better sometime. Basically put the car back together so I could drive it.
