Did AMC ever sell a CJ5 R/H drive from the factory? Or was it done else where? How do I tell if it's a true one and not a backyard done job? I've never seen any CJ with right hand drive. Is this something I need to buy?

First I have seem but I am certain they exported vehicles to right hand drive areas.

Probably some right hand drive CJ5's delivered in Australia since we tend to drive on that side of the road.
I've finally given up drinking for good...........now I only drink for evil.

Ive seen a right hand drive 1976 CJ6,  it was part of a contract build, and the contract fell through  
It ended up being part of a snow plow company.  232, 3spd.
