i have a cj5  with a 78 360 in it . it ran ok but had some issues . so i just had the heads done and put in a new milling MTA-1 cam and lifters new timing chain rebuilt the oil pump new push rods
just got everything back together last weekend i used the cam lube primed the oil system
and started to to cam break-in 7 to 10 min. in and I started to here vale train noise
today i pulled the valve covers and intake off and found all but 3 lifers ruined and metal all over

Did you match valve springs to the cam /lifter manufacturers specs?   Too strong springs during break-in will wipe a lobe faster than anything.  Some builders use a lighter spring during break-in, then swap to recommended springs.

Possible issues: improper hardening of the lifter face, lifters not rotating.

Or too strong of a spring for break-in, as stated above.

Many here have stated that they have disassembled new lifters and cleaned out any debris. Then re-assembled and soaked in clean oil overnight before installation. This is assuming hydraulic lifters.

I recommend leaving the valve covers off during the cam’s initial run so you can spin push rods by hand as needed to keep the lifters rotating.
