Does anybody have any feedback or comments on using a Lares 972 or 10972 steering box?  I would enjoy any feedback on these boxes as I need to do something with my factory box soon.

Thanks!

I've used them, they bolt up fine and look completely stock. The quicker ratio is a nice upgrade.

Just a quick update, I installed a 10972 box and I am very happy with it.  Big improvement over the stock box.

Lares 10972 has a 10:1 steering ratio.  Your original is most likely around 16:1 depending on the year.  I haven't driven a 10:1 box on an older car, but I have that ratio on my Ford Focus ST and it's VERY quick, perhaps too quick for the old cars imho, so I opted to go 12.7:1 on my Javelins and am very happy with that.

It appears Lares is a good option based on reviews here, and Borgeson also makes new 12.7:1 boxes (part # 800130) that bolt up.  I bought one of those recently but haven't had a chance to drive it yet as the car is awaiting an engine.

Not sure how Lares compares here, but Borgeson also changes the valving so that the steering requires a little more effort.  It gives the steering more of a modern-car feel rather than the one-finger steering found in the old cars.

In response to CamJam,

The box is not too quick and it only took two outings to get comfortable with it.
It takes much more effort than the stock box, but not too much effort.

I would recommend this change to anybody who drives more sportingly than the average person.

Good feedback, Bryan.  I understand that Lares will also rebuild your old box too, which is definitely a great option if you want to preserve originality.
