Seems like I might be up for a new alternator and there might be a few pounds to save with a smaller unit, what have people had success with?

Currently running a 120 amp one wire GM 10SI copy, only seeing around 12.5 volts while the engine is running rather than 13.5 when it was new.
I've finally given up drinking for good...........now I only drink for evil.

The gentleman I help with their dirt car has one of these kits he really likes. Pulley is between w.p. pulley and fan spacer. I think I'm going to fit one onto my dirt car. I dont have room down low like the oem mounting.
Its for a chevy but I dont think it would be too difficult to adapt.

If you have room in stock location I've used the east coast auto electric small gm version with the delco amc bracket. Its not as small as this one though

The mini-Denso style seems the go.

Might have to look at pulley ratios as well, saw somewhere they are rated to 16,000 rpm, so would want to run something like 2:1 drive ratio. Mine is driven off the crank, I run an electric water pump.

I bought one from a large Ebay seller and it lasted a year and quit. Hopefully your luck will be better.

Yep, parts aren’t what they used to be.

Your right of course but it still doesn't make a person feel good. Thankfully it was just used on a piece of lawn equipment. I'd have been pretty unhappy if that would have happened to a family member miles from home.

Fossil,
Picked one up of these small ALT units in a garage sale of AMC parts. At least It is passed as a AMC piece in as NEW from AP store.
I was skeptic about this small unit yet took it home.
Will need to monitor these small units history  if they are problematic or not and what the resolve is.

Look at forklift alternators.  Small and low amp output.

HMM, I am not familiar with this new unit I Have in hand, It was a throw away almost so I took it being was New from AP store.
Definitely need to look into it. I think was for a Javelin  what I recall the conversation about things.

I use this 90 amp alternator on 3 different engines and a friend of mine has several in use.

Do you really need 120 amps?
