I am about to start a new Jeep project. it's a 1977 Renegade CJ 7 that I have owned for over 20 years. Going to be an off road project running an AMC 360, Chrysler 727 auto with Dana 300. I plan on running a full width rear Dana 60 floater and a full width front Dana 44. For this I will be outboarding the front springs.
I expect to get the frame back from the sandblaster this week so that I can begin to modify and reinforce the frame for the outboarding and for the YJ tub I will be using. I do not plan on making this a " Pretty" Jeep so that I can abuse it in the woods and not worry. The frame off 1986 I just finished will not even see a raindrop let alone mud. Pictures to follow, although I might move this to Member Projects

Making some progress. Got the frame back, painted it 2 coats of POR silver and 2 coats of POR topcoat silver Also did the fuel tank and crossmember. Outboarded the front springs to make room for the FULL WIDTH Dana 44 FRONT using a full width Dana 60 rear. Basically the entire drive train is from a J-20 except for the transfer case which is a Dana 300. Notice the vintage fender well exit headers! Waiting for the front locker and I need to fabricate up the transmission mounting to the CJ crossmember. The Torque Flite 727 never came in a CJ only the 904. Problem is that the front drive shaft will hit the 727 case unless you outboard the front springs which moves the pinion out about 3 inches. This plus the special thin but stronger front drive shaft from Tom Woods makes this swap possible. Unlike the last one I just finished this CJ will be painted in black Raptor liner inside and outside. Everything so that I will not worry about scratching in in the woods Edited by JERSEYJOE - Jun/22/2022 at 7:03pm |

I would love to post pictures but the size limit does not allow for me to upload. I tried to resize them but does not work.

I was able to resize. A lot of work done since the June picture. The installation of the Torqueflite 727 is not an easy thing. Between the outboarded front springs and clocking the Dana 300 I now have about 3/4 inch clearance from the front drive shaft to the trans case. I looked at another Torqueflite 727 and I can actually gain another 3/4 inch if I machine the oil pan mounting edge and trim the pan. Not that hard to do since I'll be taking the trans out before final assy.
I have to mention that Tom Wood's Driveshaft was excellent during this build. They did some extra work and there was no charge. Excellent products. the front driveshaft is smaller diameter but stronger than stock which helps in the clearance department.. Waiting for the tub to return. It will be completely covered in RAPTOR liner inside and out, the exception being the windshield frame, hood and grille shell which will be flat black. Reason is that the hood will be getting original 1977 RENEGADE DECALS which will not stick to the RAPTOR coating. Mounted the 35's on the HUMMER H2 wheels and put the chassis on my roller pads so that I can roll it accoss the floor
